The Commonwealth Bank Foundation Teaching Awards recognise and reward teachers from schools across Australia who are making an outstanding contribution to developing the essential financial literacy skills of their students.

Recently, there were 15 awards presented - that's $10,000 each for 15 schools to invest in their financial learning programs, plus an extra $2,000 as a personal reward for each winning teacher.

Mr Malcolm Freak, Head Teacher - Social Science (currently on Long Service Leave) was one of this year's awardees.

Under Mr Freak's guidance, Duval High School introduced an interactive website aimed Mr Malcolm Freakat Year 9 and 10 Commerce students.  The site, www.commercequiz.com, developed for the school by the Social Science staff and a former software student, is used as a revision tool by teachers at the conclusion of a Commerce topic. The number of users is a strong indicator of the success of the program, and the scores students are achieving are an excellent guide to the extent to which the teaching and learning outcomes have been achieved.

The Teaching Award will ensure that more Commerce questions are written and more schools are able to access the Commerce Quiz for free.
