News » Armidale Community Invited to Drop-in Sessions to Provide Input on the new Armidale Future SchoolLast updated 7:10 AM on 1 February 2018
The Armidale community is invited to attend drop-in sessions in February at Duval High School and Armidale High School, to view concept designs of Armidale's new secondary school, talk to members of the planning team, ask questions and provide feedback.
Armidale Future School (AFS) Project Liaison Officer Kris Croft invites parents and interested community members to attend the drop-in sessions which will be held on the 6th February at Armidale High and 7th February at Duval High.
"The drop-in sessions will provide an opportunity for the community to view plans for the new school and understand the educational principles that are driving the design. They will also have an opportunity to view initial concept plans for the interim school on the Duval High School site, while the new school is being constructed," Croft said.
"A variety of project specialists will be on-hand to provide information and answer questions. Importantly, we also want input from the community".
Good progress is being made on the development of the Armidale Future School, with the appointment of project managers GHD and architects NBRS.
Professional services consultancy GHD will manage the project through to construction of the school, and Sydney-based NBRS architects are developing the design plans for the school.
Both firms were selected via an open tender process.
NBRS architects presented their "design inspirations" at a public information session in November last year, which was well received by the community.
"The community responded positively to the presentation provided by NBRS architects and we look forward to providing further design updates at the drop-in sessions," Croft said.
"The Armidale Future School project team is working closely with NBRS and GHD on the development of the new school. At present, plans for the transition are continuing in response to feedback from students, staff, parents and the wider community."
Students of both the existing high schools will attend Duval High School from Term 1 2019, while the new school is built on the existing Armidale High School site. Demountable classrooms will be used to house the increased number of students at that time.
"The demountables will provide extra capacity for a fully functioning learning and study environment, and our priority is ensuring a smooth transition for the students. We'll provide updates on the website as soon as plans are confirmed," Croft said.
"We encourage the Armidale community to keep an eye on the website for project updates and to provide feedback, and also register for the newsletter," Croft concluded.
